Problem StatementQuestions our class decided to solve:
Create an equation that could be used before choosing a line in a supermarket. Other People's ProcessAfter most groups presented we noticed that Sierra's group came up with the same solution we did! Assessment of ProblemThis problem was a slight challenge to me considering you could solve it in many different ways. It was really based off your judgement for which units you would want. I enjoyed this problem and I think they're more enjoyable when Kirby is there for guidance so I'm not lost. | My ProcessBelow, I was trying to find out how many seconds each item took to be accounted for, and once I figured that out I had to solve for how many seconds each customer took. Since the units were in minutes, and I wanted an outcome of seconds I had to convert them. Once I did that, I got 2.81 seconds per item. Then I solved for the amount of seconds for each customer, I was left with 48 seconds per customer. The SolutionHere's the final equation! To find out which aisle was the quickest we had to calculate the total sends each aisle would take to serve each customer. First we took the number of items and multiplied that by 2.81 (seconds per item), then add the number of customers multiplied by 48 (seconds per customer) and our outcome was the total seconds each lane took. Self Evalution For this 3 act problem I was especially proud of the work I did. I'm not going to lie, this is the first time I figured out the problem before my peers that usually do did. I knew what I had to do in order to find the answer I needed some guidance in doing so. I would give myself a solid A for my determination with this problem although it was a slight challenge to me. I think I grew in two qualities of a mathematician, Questioning, Growth Mindset/Perseverance. We were supposed to be in groups of 4-5, but for some reason half my group members left and it was Janice and I left. Like I said i knew what I had to convert and multiply, I just wasn't sure what equation was appropriate. With Kirby's guidance he helped me hash out the problem, and I was left with the work above! Anyways, with this problem, even though my group wasn't there to support me like they were supposed to I still figured it out. |
